Clever, hardy and big. Norways Rats are often described as being "as big as a cat". Realistically these intruders can be around as big as a youth squirrel. However, the damage created by even a small family of Rats can bring a home or business to its knees. Norway Rats can be a tedious and trying challenge for the untrained or inexperienced technician and have even been known to fool a seasoned veteran technician. Typically a strong monitoring program, with pre-baited snap traps can eliminate a small population quickly. Professional care is required here as retail and do-it-yourself methods are not effective in completely eliminating the problem. Entry points should be located and properly sealed as Norway Rats are crafty and will find entry elsewhere if not adressed properly.

Rats cause destruction and damage everywhere they go. Identifying a Rat intruder is not difficult as the feces, rub marks, harborage points and odour which accompany these intruders is very distinctive. Norway Rats leave trails of damage which can usually be tracked back to a harborage point and in most cases this is the most effective approach to distinguishing an intruder and eliminating it. Skids, stored product, wiring, sheetrock, produce, and food service areas all provide food and harborage to Rats. Capable of swimming Rats rarely require an on-site water source and will travel up to 300 yds from their point of harborage leaving costly damage and concerning health risks along the way.

Relegated to the bottom of thge page. Roof Rats are less common and typically like to remain in an exterior environment. Roof Rats are slender, agile, quick and just as clever as the Norway Rat. Harborage points on exterior can usually be found in trees, or close to an entry point along the exterior of homes and business. Much like the Norway Rat these intruders tend to leave similar evidence making improper identification common. Roof Rats prefer to make their harborage outside. However, rafters in warehouse facilities, attics, large vaulted ceilings and soffats where access can be gained by a nearby tree also provide ootential harborage points.. Control measures are similar for the Roof Rat,. However, taking into account the difference in behaviours placement of traps and monitoring techniques should be tweaked to ensure no improper control measures.
