Fruitfly (Red and Black Eyed)

Noone likes fruitflies. Everyone wants them gone. Experienced technicians would go on for days about flying insect issues that are out of control due to lacking sanitation in an acct. Sanitation in all cases is the source of this fly. However, distinguishing what type of fly your dealing with is critical in control measures. Red Eyed Fruitflies are easily identified by large red eyes which are immediately visible. Preferring low levels of decomposition you will see these flies nearer to fresh product or very recent refuse. Black Eyed fruitflies prefer significant decomposition and can be found around dishpits, grease traps and drains where refuse is deposited during cleaning. Treatment for Red Eyed Fruitflies can usually be achieved with treatments above refuse, and below sinks. However, treatment for Black Eyed Fruitflies requires in depth treatment.

Houseflies are very similar in preference to Red Eyed Fruitflies preferring early to no decomposition on food sources. They are found around windows, sinks, doors and in some cases can be found in light fixtures with Cluster Fly specimen. Found indoors and outdoors these flies are not terribly picky and can be seen with Blow Flies consuming the same food source should a more encouraging option not be available. Treatments for this pest require applications to exterior and interior windows and doors. Some heavy activity will require fogging to attic areas and a treatment at exterior refuse and compost areas will effectively discourage this intruder as well.

Blow Fly

Blow Flies appear shiny green, blue, red, brown and sometimes silver. Blow Flies are commonly found swarming feces and heavily decomposing debris. Much like the Black Eyed Fruitfly these intruders prefer already decomposed matter as a food source and are easily identified around the exterior of most homes and business as compost and waste debris are always available where human populations exist. Solid applications at compost, refuse, compactor, lights, ventillation, windows and doors at the exterior will provide effective results. However, to attain long-term control a Flying Insect Spot Program is required.

Phorid Fly

Often reffered to as the Jumping Fly this pest is evidence of a serious issue at any home or business. Phorid flies could represent a break in plumbing, damaged grease trap, lacking attention to sanitation or damaged and unfixed tiles and floor grout. Phorid flies are easily identified by the "hunch back" look and can be seen almost hoping around points of harborage. Usually found around grease traps, damaged baseboards, and under bar service areas this fly is only controlled effectively by eliminating the source and no amount of pesticide will achieve that. Phorid Flies breed quickly and if left unaddressed can very rapidly lead to a serious health concern. Professional care is required to identify and eliminate source points.

Drain or Moth Fly

Drain Flies are often reffered to as Moth Flies due to the size and appearance of the wings which are bigger and more pronounced than the other flies in this category. Coming from drains where organic debris and water provide encouraging breeding points. Drain flies are not hard to control once a source point has been identified. However, consistent drain foaming and bioremediation applications are required to eliminate the source of the issue. The most effective solution to eliminating this pest is to understand how it occurs and to eliminate potential food or organic debris going down drains. Usually occuring during cleaning process when mops are run over drains. Preventative on site control measures such as mopping around drains instead of over drains provides immediately noticable if not permanent results.
